The Primary objective at Dick Ackourey & Sons Fly Fishing School is to enhance every aspect of you Fly Fishing experience. Regardless of your current level of expertise you will gain a greater appreciation of the art of Fly Fishing. The course instructor will be Joe Ackourey, an expert fly fisherman with nearly four decades of experience, who will share with you many of his time-tested techniques.

The course will begin with hands on instruction in the tying of the four knots essential to the sport of fly fishing; the improved clinch knot, the perfection loop, the blood knot, and the nail knot.

Next, Joe will lead the students to the casting pond where he will discuss the false cast and the roll cast, then give each student personalized hands-on instruction for both casts.

Students will then proceed to nearby Bowman's creek for the entomology portion of the course, where Joe will explain the life cycles of the mayfly, stonefly, and the caddis fly, and how these cycles relate to maximizing your fly-fishing experience.

The final portion of the class will focus on "putting it all together”. Here Joe will guide you streamside and will offer tips on such topics as stealth wading, "reading" the water, “Nymph and Dry Fly” fishing techniques and of course, fly fishing etiquette.

A current Fishing license is needed with trout stamp. Rods and reels will be available for use rent free to enrolled students if needed for class. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
Price for the course $100.00

Your reservation will be confirmed upon receipt of your deposit of $50.00. Confirmation will be sent via email. Deposit can be dropped off at the shop, we also will accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover by phone or you can mail your check to:
